"Anyone can cook aloo gobi, but who can bend a bend a ball like Beckham?"
Bend it like Beckham is a cultural comedy about bending around tradition and culture to reach your goal. It explores the life of an 18 year old Indian girl, Jesminder Bhamra, whose heart is set on becoming a professional soccer player, just like her idol David Beckham.
Jess’ dream is not understood by her parents and family, who believe that finding an Indian boyfriend and learning how to cook a full Indian meal is more important.
Jess doesn't let this get the better of her and her determination and talent pays off when she is noticed by an onlooker, Jules, who befriends Jess and asks her to join the local all-girls soccer team. Although, only playing in the park she is seen to have tremendous potential, by the team’s coach, Joe.
Jess soon realizes that becoming just like David Beckham is no longer her dreambut instead she is sharing Jules’ dream of playing in the professional women’s league in America.
An American scout will be attending their final. He may be able to get both girls one step closer to playing professionally if he likes what he sees.
Will Jess’s dreams flourish or crumble?
